A New Addition!

With the sad passing of our singer/keyboardist James "Jimmy" Holden, the task at hand was to fill Jimmy's seat. We're excited to share that Tacoma's own Michael Jaap, one of most talented musicians in the Northwest, has joined forces with Red House. A fine singer & multi-keyboardist, Mike is contributing greatly to the band. He's played in numerous local bands over the years including Alive 'n' Well, The Reputations, Lady A and his own bands: Michael Jaap Band & Dr. Jop's Funk Shop. He has also played with such blues/R&B greats as B.B. King, James Brown, Al Jarreau, The Temptations and Elvin Bishop to mention a few, with a musical score so broad to include repeat engagements with jazz greats Bud Shank, George Benson, Ernie Watts, Larry Coryell, Eddie Harris, Stanley Turrentine, etc...Mike has also recently retired as a music educator, teaching at UPS School of Music & the Tacoma Public Schools. He's currently doing some some work on our upcoming CD & we're in rehearsals for future gigs, as rooms start booking bands again. It's a new chapter as we enter into our 11th year as Red House!

RIP bandmate James "Jimmy" Holden--wins big @ WBS awards.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of our dear dear friend, Hammond B-3 Master & singer extraordinaire James "Jimmy" Holden. Jimmy succumbed to a Covid-19 infection complicated by kidney & heart conditions. Words cannot express our feelings in this moment. Red House has been in the midst of making a full length 11-song CD, which will feature Jimmy's contributions. Look for more info here as it becomes available.

Edit: April 2021 - Jimmy left a big legacy though, recently enhanced by posthumous "Best of the Blues" Awards for both Hall of Fame & Lifetime Achievement “Best of the Blues Awards” from the Washington Blues Society. Richly deserved, James! :)

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers,
Tim Scott, Mark Noftsger, Robin Crane

Jimmy Holden For The Win!

From 2019:

We feel extremely honored that our band was nominated for the Washington Blues Society Best Blues Band of 2019—our members Jimmy Holden and Robin Crane nominated for Best Blues Piano/Keyboard and the Chris Leighton Best Blues Drummer award, respectively. The big news is that Jimmy Holden won! We were also honored to be invited to perform at the Awards Event in Everett, WA. What a great day, playing for our peers and then watching James "Jimmy" Holden receive his award. Thank you to everyone who nominated us and voted for Jimmy.

2019 WBS Awards

From 2019:

Most everyone likes to be acknowledged for their accomplishments. Musicians are no exception. Perhaps even more so, in that what we do is a Labor of Love--largely under-appreciated and certainly under-compensated. So an "atta boy" every now and then is especially nice.

Our band, Red House, is made up of four Seattle natives who have individually been playing music since the Sixties, professionally for almost fifty years each. As a group that’s been together since I moved back home to Seattle (almost 10 years ago), we make the best quality music we are able to and strive for excellence every time we take the stage because it's important to us and it’s the best kind of fun--that's why we're still doing it all these years later. I’ve never been comfortable “tooting my own horn” but in this case, because I’m so proud of who we are and what we do, I feel okay tooting “our’ horn.

Today, I was excited to learn that our band has been nominated for the Washington Blues Society Best Blues Band of 2019—Jimmy Holden and Robin Crane nominated for Best Blues Piano/Keyboard and the Chris Leighton Best Blues Drummer award, respectively. If you are a member of the Washington Blues Society and will be voting on the WBS Awards for this year (the deadline for ballots is April 9th, 2019), you might consider supporting us but whoever you choose, please keep supporting The Blues and Live Music. We need you.

Thank you,
Tim Scott and the members of Red House
Jimmy Holden, Mark Noftsger and Robin Crane

In These Uncertain Times...

Hi Friends,
Just a quick note to assure folks that Red House hasn't collectively fallen off the face of the Earth. Like many other bands & artists, we have lost a substantial amount of work during this Covid-19 pandemic & it will likely be longer still before we're able to preform live with any semblance of frequency. This all went down in the midst of the band working on our 2nd CD, a collection of 11 songs--originals by us & our talented family of musical friends, plus a couple of interesting cover songs. We're also shooting & recording a live performance @ the Aurora Borealis nightclub this weekend that will stream on the web in about 2 weeks. Please stay tuned on this website & our Facebook page facebook.com/redhouseblues for more info on the date, time etc for this. It's our first endeavor with this type of media but should be fun or at least a good learning opportunity.
Thanks for all the love you've shown us. Please stay safe out there & we'll see you down the road.
